Several Super Mario Remasters are Rumoured for Nintendo Switch
Website VGC has reported that according to several sources, Nintendo have numerous Switch re-releases of some of the most notable Super Mario titles planned in accordance with the iconic plumbers 35th anniversary.
Apparently these titles will be revealed during an event this year to celebrate the release of the first Super Mario Bros. title back in 1985. This event will also supposedly contain information regarding brand new Mario releases, including the heavily rumoured latest entry in the Paper Mario franchise.
Eurogamer has also backed these claims, specifying that “sources have indicated that Mario Galaxy is indeed one of the games being readied for a remaster, alongside a couple of other 3D Mario favourites.” These ports would likely include Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Galaxy 2, 3D World and possibly even the 3DS title Super Mario 3D Land.
With several of the most notable 2D entries being available via the Nintendo Switch Online service (including Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World), and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe being available on the system, it seems unlikely that many 3D entries will be getting new re-releases.
Unsurprisingly, Nintendo has refused to comment on the rumours, but hopes are high that gaming’s most iconic franchise will see some high quality releases before the end of the year - both new and old.
