Second UK man arrested in connection to PlayStation and Xbox DDOS attacks.
A UK man has been arrested in connection to the DDOS attacks that crippled online services for both PlayStation and Xbox. The man who is 18-years-old was arrested in Southport, near Liverpool and is the second person to be arrested in relation to the hackings.
He is accused of unauthorised access to computer material and he has also been charged with a second crime of knowingly providing false information to law enforcement agencies in the US.
The investigation was a joint operation between UK cybercrime units and the US FBI.
The head of Cyber Crimes Unit Craig Jones had this to say about the arrest:
"We are still at the early stages of the investigation and there is still much work to be done. We will continue to work closely with the FBI to identify those who commit offences and hold them to account."
Vinnie Omari was the first person to be arrested and is an alleged member of Lizard Squard, the group of hackers who have targeted Sony and Microsoft a number of times.
The accusations are very serious as the national policing lead for cybersecurity at the Association of Police Officers Peter Goodman states:
"This is a significant arrest... of a UK citizen suspected of engaging in serious and organised cybercrime on the national and international stage."
