Salt and Sanctuary Comes to Switch This August

The Dark Souls-inspired 2D platformer, Salt and Sanctuary is heading to Nintendo Switch this August, adding another fantastic indie title to the platform's library.

The game begins with the hero sailing across a stormy sea to transport a princess and strike a truce between a rival kingdom. An encounter with a sinister abomination shipwrecks the hero, ensuing a struggle for survival on an island of the undead.

Salt and Sanctuary features a beautiful but sinister hand-drawn art style that brings to life the game's horrifying enemies, including more than 20 bosses.

The game's RPG elements enable the hero to play as a number of different character types and utilise weapons such as whips, crossbows and spells, and choose from over 50 sets of armour. More so, an upgradeable skill tree and hidden platforming abilities add another layer to the game's depth.

Salt and Sanctuary offers players a hefty amount of content through multiple endings, a New Game+ mode, different character builds and optional challenge runs. Indeed, modes like permadeath, no blocking and no rolling keep Salt and Sanctuary feeling fresh long after the credits roll.

Michelle and James Silva, co-creators of developer Ska Studios, said: “The two of us wanted to create a Soulslike game that we wanted to play, and finding that so many others who wanted it too warmed our dark little hearts. Bringing Salt and Sanctuary to the Nintendo Switch means more people who like dismal, satisfying games can play our very dismal, satisfying game.”

Salt and Sanctuary heads to the Nintendo eShop 2 August. Check out the trailer above.
