Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin Launch Trailer

Five years in the making, Edelweiss' Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is out now on Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC. Check out the launch trailer for the demon-slaying, rice-harvesting action platformer above.

To describe Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin as a mere 2D platformer seems to be doing it a disservice. Inspired by Japanese faith, heritage and folklore (Sakuna, the protagonist, is a god amongst mortals herself), the game celebrates Japan while championing the cultural significance of the simple rice crop. It sounds silly on paper, but the growing and harvesting of rice is key to character progression in Of Rice and Ruin. As Sakuna grows rice and feeds the innocent mortal outcasts she's found a kinship with, she'll grow more powerful herself and fight the onslaught of demons with more power, grace and ruthlessness.
