Saints Row: Undercover, Cancelled PSP Title Made Available For Download Today

Saint's Row: Undercover, a PlayStation Portable (PSP) game being developed by Volition when it was owned by THQ, was cancelled and never saw the light of day. Today, the same development studio which is now owned by Deep Silver, has made the unfinished game available.

In 2009, Volition teamed up with an outside studio, Mass Media Games, then with Savage Entertainment to port Saints Row 2 from the PlayStation 3 to the PSP. Due to direct portability issues,  the development team turned the game into it's own IP.

Saints Row: Undercover was to feature open-world gameplay and originally titled Saints Row: The Fall. The storyline was a civil war was beginning inside the 3rd Street Saints. Under the orders of Commissioner Bradshaw, the player controlled an undercover cop to infiltrate the gang and stop the civil war. Eventually, THQ and Volition cancelled the game due to the quality of it.

Since then Saints Row: Undercover has been floating around the office of Volition until last week when the studio released a documentary on their YouTube channel which we covered the other day. Yesterday, they live streamed the game on their Twitch channel.

Those interested in downloading Saints Row: Undercover to try out can head over to Unseen64.net, where Volition released the prototype. Don't expect to download and start playing the game on your PSP, as it seems that the handheld console will need to be modded, or a development kit version, however an emulator will reportedly do.

Somewhere in this house, I have a modded PSP. I feel I may need to dig it out!
