Rust Console Edition: Release Window Confirmed

The long-awaited console edition of Facepunch's multiplayer survival sandbox Rust is coming this spring, the company has announced. The closed beta for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game are ongoing and will continue for the next few weeks.

The console version of the game is being published and developed by Double Eleven, a UK-based support studio which has developed ports of titles like the Lego Harry Potter series on PlayStation 4; Limbo on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; and PixelJunk Shooter on Windows, Mac and Linux. The studio also recently provided support for Mojang Studios in the development of Minecraft Dungeons. Development on the PC and console versions of Rust will run independently, with Facepunch continuing PC development while Double Eleven leads development on consoles.

Released in 2013, Rust was one of the early names in the multiplayer survival genre and has maintained its popularity to his day. Throwing 100 players into a vast, post-apocalyptic wilderness, the game tasks them with foraging, hunting, crafting and building in an effort to survive. As players and their teammates advance, they'll grow from focusing on moment-to-moment survival to engaging in tribal warfare with other players. Eventually, they'll advance to a more modern style of conflict with surveillance systems, vehicles and modern firearms.

Take a look at Rust running on consoles in the teaser trailer above.

Rust will release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in spring 2021.
