Runic Games has been Closed with Staff Laid-off at Motiga

Not even a week after the news that CCP would be leaving VR development and closing a studio it seems that Perfect World Entertainment have closed some doors as well. 

In a statement posted on the company's website developer Runic Games has announced that it is closing its doors. It was revealed that the reasoning behind this decision was due to Perfect World Entertainment's "continued strategy to focus on online games as a service." This means that sadly the developers who only just recently released Hob have been given the order to close. 

At the same time the developers of Gigantic have been hit with a number of lay-offs leaving only the core them to keep the studio running. Perfect World Entertainment says that the two incidents are unrelated but given the news comes on the same day, it's hard not to think it might be. Regardless of the cause and decisions it is sad to hear of both of these events taking place. 

 It seems to be a trend as of late to announce the news of studios suffering closures and lay-offs during big events. This news comes during Blizzcon 2017 with the CCP announcement occurring during Paris Games Week. This is of course just a note of what might be poor timing.
