Well developer Spacewave Software heard your cry and made just the game you're looking for.

Designed for split-screen play, you will be able to literally invade the screen of your opponent. In addition, this shoot 'em up will have multiple heroes to play, each with their own skills and "Mega Gunship boss form", which just sounds wonderful. On top of the local and online versus battles, there is a single-player arcade mode as well for all of those who don't play well with others so that you can play the game however you like!
