Resident Evil 7: biohazard sells 5 million units
Fresh off winning best VR Audio at the 2018 Game Audio Network Guild Awards, Capcom recently announced that as of March 31st, 2018 Resident Evil 7: biohazard has sold over 5.1 million units since its initial release in January 2017.
With an overall Metacritic score of 86 and a positive fan reception at release, Resident Evil 7 saw Capcom shift away from the action-orientated gameplay of the most recent titles in the series, focusing on the horror seen in the earlier games. With the addition of a first-person view, as well as clear inspiration from the unreleased P.T. title that Konami were producing, Capcom has excelled in refreshing the Resident Evil series for a modern market.
Resident Evil 7 is still yet to outsell its predecessor Resident Evil 6 which to date has sold roughly ten million units since its release in 2012, but with Resident Evil 7 selling roughly half of that figure in just over a year, it’s likely that it will go on to become one of the best selling in the series.
Resident Evil 7: biohazard and its DLC additions are available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. For those who are feeling extra brave, there’s also a VR enhanced edition on Playstation VR.
