Razer Announces New Android TV Microconsole

Razer Announces New Android TV Microconsole

At the Google developer conference Google I/O yesterday PC Peripheral and system maker Razer announced that they are branching out into the lounge even further by making an Android TV based microconsole.

Sporting the traditional black and green colour scheme and three headed snake logo the prototype unit was on display and is the latest attempt by Google to get into the set top box market. Apparently the unit will be aimed at Razers core market and tagged with the "By Gamers , For Gamers" line that the company have been using since the start,

On his official Facebook feed Razer founder and CEO Min-Liang Tan had the following to say:

We're one of the few companies if not the only company in the world that has the in-house design and technological talent to design an end-to-end experience for gamers. No other company in the world has the engineering talent and has their entire organization focused just on the gamers of the world.

From the software layer (where we have millions of gamers on our software platform) - to the systems and the peripherals (where we make some of the world's best laptops and controllers) and now wearables and to the living room.

With this as yet unnamed console Google and Razer are hoping to out do the Amazon Fire TV which is less gaming focussed and also avoid the pitfalls that have beset Ouya.

The Unit will also do all the cool things we expect from am Android TV unit, movies, video, music etc and since the Google's Android TV software also supports voice control, we can expect that kind of functionality alongside the mobile application which works on any Android tablet or smartphone which will be the controller for the device.

Razer say that it will be out in the Autumn and the price point has yet to be set.
