Prison Tycoon Franchise Reboot Announced

A reboot of the classic prison management sim Prison Tycoon has been announced by Publisher Ziggurat Interactive and developer Abylight Studios. It will release on PC and consoles later in 2021.

Titled Prison Tycoon: Under New Management, the reboot is set to modernise the series, originally developed by Virtual Playground, with a "modern mindset and positive outlook", according to Wade Rosen, President of Ziggurat Interactive. It will see players in charge of establishing and maintaining a successful prison. They'll have to manage resources, keep staff happy, ensure prisoners are safe, provide services for inmates to help them rehabilitate and more.

Unlike the often-criticised earlier games in the franchise, developer Abylight Studios will give this entry a lighthearted cartoon style and buckets of humour. If you've seen the grimy and bleak style of the originals, you'll be feeling a rush of relief already.
