Prey Gets A New Video About Yu
Prey is shaping up to be an awesome game, drawing a lot of inspirations from Bioshock and Dead Space. Part of that charm comes from the mistery surrounding the plot and even who you are, and those questions are explored a bit on Prey's latest trailer, cleverly titled "Only Yu Can Save the World".
In Prey, you play as Morgan Yu, a human who wakes up in Talos I space station with no memory of how they -- because you can play as a man or a woman - got there. The video above doesn't show spoilers, but it does explain how the premise of the game fits within the overall narrative -- basically, Yu doesn't know why they're there, and it's up to you to find out.
Making matters worse is the fact Morgan seems to be having an identity crisis, complete with some sort of Dead Space 2 dementia where they experience hallucinations and talk to themselves. During their time on Talos I, players will find out devices that Yu had a hand in building and have the chance to shape their relationship with the people still alive up there, including Morgan's brother (and CEO of the Transtar), Alex Yu.
The video also touches upon the consequences of player's narrative and gameplay choices, from station defences that start targeting you for having too much alien DNA to people you can talk to who may help you in the future.
More importantly, it is all done via proper commentary and interviews instead of a narration, providing an awesome glimpse at the mind of the team behind the game -- including many more people talking than it's usual for these kind of marketing pieces. It really gives off the vibe this was a close-knit team that knows what they are doing. It is also weird how a few of them refer to Morgan as a her, indicating maybe the dev team favours a female-protagonist approach.
Either way, watch the video above. You can read more about Morgan's time on Talos I by reading his journal here.
Prey is out on the 5th of May 5 2017 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
