Pokémon Sword and Shield Has Outsold Smash Bros. Launch Numbers in Japan
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield released worldwide recently, and unsurprisingly the game’s have seen an extremely strong financial reception. According to Famitsu, the new entries in the long-running RPG franchise even eclipsed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s launch sales in Japan, having the best opening week for any Switch game in the country.
To be exact, the titles sold 1,364,544 in Japan, and this is only counting physical sales for the game. This is a huge launch by Japan’s standards, being proven further by the 180,136 Switch units sold between the 11th November and the 17th November. This has also pushed Nintendo Switch unit sales in Japan to over 10 million, which of course includes sales of the base Switch model and the newly revised Nintendo Switch Lite.
Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
