Pokémon Quest Announcement Trailer
The second half of Nintendo's latest Pokémon press reveal consisted of Pokémon Quest, an action RPG style game that, everyone's surprise, has already been released on the Switch. The game is listed as "Free-to-start", implying there will be in-game purchases.
The gameplay style of this new Pokémon release can be difficult to explain. As previously mentioned it is an action style RPG in which the player composes their small team of Pokémon and battles across an island on which everything is made of Minecraft-style cubes, (including the Pokémon themselves). Surprisingly you actually have very little control over the Pokémon themselves; they seem to move across the map on their own while you simply aim their attacks at the wild creatures you will be battling for most of the game. You will be able to befriend many of the wild Pokémon you encounter and use them in your own team, and the game features a hub area of sorts known as your Base Camp. The Base Camp is fully customisable with extra collectibles that not only give your Base Camp a unique look, but also provide helpful in-game benefits.
Check out the trailer above for a look at some of the game in action, (or just download it on Switch, it's entirely free-to-start after all).
Pokémon Quest will release for mobile devices in late June for anyone not intending to play it on Nintendo Switch.
