Pokémon GO Announcement Trailer

Admit it, you couldn't resist watching the trailer before reading this, because what on Kanto would Pokémon GO be? Surely not a mobile version of Pokémon, following the naming trend of Hitman GO and Lara Croft Go.

And it's not, if the trailer is to be believed. An augmented reality title coming in 2016 for free to iOS and Android, which lets you catch and fight Pokémon with other real people.

Of course, it won't all be chucking an invisible ball at invisible things, for those not looking through their phone, as you can get the Pokémon GO Plus, a bluetooth device with a button that will let you catch Pokémon, amongst other unspecified simple things.

The project is a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Niantic, a developer specialising in GPS-based augmented reality games.

We suspect this is Nintendo's answer to "Why is there no Pokémon MMO?", and if they manage to get it even close to the above video, it will be worth the wait.
