PlayStation VR Price and Release Date Finally Revealed
It's official Sony's PlayStation VR headset will be arriving worldwide in October and best of all it will cost less than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
At £349.99 - Almost the price of the PlayStation 4 itself, Sony wants to bring VR to the masses, especially to those who want the VR experience, but can't quite justify the price of Rift or Vive - not to mention the powerful PCs required to go alongside them.
With PlayStation VR all you'll need is a PlayStation 4 - although Sony do neglect to say that their camera is also required and is sold separately for £39.99, but together it still works out cheaper than the competitors.
Inside the box you'll get the following:
- PSVR HMD.
- PlayRoom VR game.
- Earplugs.
- Breakout box w/cpu.
- Cables, documentation etc.
It might be cheaper, but the hardware is no joke. The VR headset has a 5.7-inch OLED screen, with a 1920x1080 resolution (960xRGBx1080 per eye) a 120hz/90hz refresh rate with 100 degree FOV.
Compared to the HTV Vive and Oculus Rift the biggest differences is in resolution which both have a 2160 x 1200 OLED displays.
In terms of support. Sony have confirmed that they will be plenty of 1st and 3rd party developers on board, with 230 confirmed - one of which is a Star Wars Battlefront game exclusively being developed for the hardware by DICE and launch title include: RIGS, BattleZone and more.
It's a promising start, but we won't know for sure if the future is really VR until we all get our hands on it - regardless of whether it's the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or PlayStation VR.

Great price compared to the competitors... Shame about the whole 'camera not included' thing. Do we know if we need Move Controllers too, or will the Dualshock 4 suffice?

Yes, I looked into it more afterwards. You don't need Move Controllers, they're optional so you can just use Dualshock 4.

It's a reasonable price when you consider the competition and 100ft Robot Golf looks good, but I can't see me justifying that much monbey until I know there's a good dozen or so games that will take full advantage of it. Move and the camera are both woefully underused already so I'd want to know that this isn't an "we have one of those too" type peripherals.

With you 100%. It'd be so easy to preorder, but id rather they narrow down what they are trying to achieve and then dive in. I can't justify nearly £400 on a handful of smaller 'experiences'

Even though I don't own a PS4, I'd still recommend waiting to see what support will be like before jumping in.
