PlayStation State of Play: Hogwarts Legacy — What We Learned
We at GameGrin have been keeping our eyes peeled for Hogwarts Legacy, and finally, it seems like our efforts are being rewarded with today's PlayStation State of Play. Without further ado, let's start with what we learned throughout our short 15 minutes of viewing the latest State of Play.
For those unaware, Hogwarts Legacy is a brand-new action RPG, open-world game set in the times before the Harry Potter novels by J.K. Rowling occurred. Players will be able to create a brand-new character, be sorted to one of the four Hogwarts houses, and even attend classes.
As a brand-new fifth-year student at Hogwarts (a very rare occurrence) in the 1800s, you'll have to catch up with all of your fellow classmates in your classes and meet the new teachers and even characters present in the novels and films, such as Nearly Headless Nick.
You will attend a variety of classes such as Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, and Potions classes to learn everything there is to know about the wizarding world. You’ll also be completing side assignments as part of the special curriculum designed to help you catch up with the other fifth-year students at your own speed.
Whenever you aren't attending classes, you'll be able to explore nooks and crannies within Hogwarts, including never-before-seen rooms within the school, such as the Hufflepuff common room — which my wife will adore — or even fan-favourite mysteries like the Room of Requirement. Scattered throughout the academy are puzzles for clever Ravenclaws or those aspiring for Merlin's greatness to solve.
This is all not to say that Hogwarts is the only place players will be able to explore in Hogwarts Legacy. Young witches and wizards will be able to discover the lands surrounding the academy with iconic locations from the books like Hogsmeade, and all-new areas that come from the minds of the team behind the game. Using all of the magical abilities that you'll learn with your schoolwork, you'll be able to explore the open world, battle foes, and rescue magic beasts at risk of poachers and restore them to health.
We got a glimpse at spell combat, including unique ancient magic spells that the protagonist of Hogwarts Legacy will be able to wield, and wonderful attacks with many spells famous from the universe, including Accio, Incendio, Stupefy, and even Avada Kedavra. Moreover, practice shield charms to deflect ranged spells and prove your mastery to the Dark Wizards that threaten the safety of the wizarding world.
Players will be able to experience all of this and much more when the game comes out in the holiday season of this year. Only a short few months before we get to live the unwritten.
