Paradox Interactive Closes Down Paradox Tectonic

Paradox Interactive is a name widely known for its numerous famous titles. Mostly famous due to the evergreen games they release, including the Age of Wonders, Crusader King, and Stellaris, the studio had decided to branch out by creating a brand-new development company: Paradox Tectonic.

Spearheaded by Rod Humble, the plan was to create a life-simulation title that would rival Electronic Arts' monstrous The Sims franchise. With him as the team leader, the team had strong ties to a veteran who worked on some of the most famous games, like The Sims 2 or even others, like Second Life.

Unfortunately, however, after numerous delays, the highly anticipated Life By You received a cancellation that left Paradox Tectonic without any projects. Due to this, and following many struggles that the Swedish company has faced, Paradox made the decision to close down that developing branch.

This is difficult and drastic news for our colleagues at Tectonic, who’ve worked hard on Life by You’s Early Access release. Sadly, with cancellation of their sole project we have to take the tough decision to close down the studio. We are deeply grateful for their hard work in trying to take Paradox into a new genre.

  • Fredrik Wester, CEO of Paradox Interactive

This closure is in line with the ever-growing struggles that the videogame industry has faced. Closing down the California-based Paradox Tectonic affects 24 employees.
