Palworld Developer Pockerpair Clarifies Business Plan Due to Interview Released Months Prior
Recently, an interview with Pocketpair released where the team discussed monetary options for their highly successful Palworld. According to the official statement released on both social media and Steam, the interview was several months old, and it does not reflect their current business structure.
In the interview, Palworld said that they had been considering various opportunities to keep the game feasible for years to come, which included a free-to-play model and a GaaS (as the team calls it — games as a service, more commonly known as Live Service Games). This sparked some panic among players who have loved the game, including those who have remained loyal over the months of its release, as it still sees daily peaks of upwards of 20,000 players.
In their official statement, however, Pocketpair clarifies that this is outdated information from an interview that took place months ago. In fact, according to the team, they have moved on from both of these ideologies and decided that it was not suitable for them. Instead, they're thinking about possible DLC in the future, though the team claims that they'll discuss with the community when the time for additional monetisation takes place.
As it stands, however, Palworld is taking a player-first mentality, receiving heavy community support for their clarification. In the meantime, they have been leaning on merchandising, with plushie releases, and further options to be explored in the future.
