Oculus Quest 2 to Support Multiple Accounts on One Device
The Oculus Quest 2 will soon be updated to support multiple user accounts on one device, in addition to limited app sharing features among those accounts, a recent Oculus blog post has announced.
Launching on the 13th February, the update will allow the "primary" Quest 2 account holder to create secondary accounts, which, in addition to having discrete save data and achievement progress, will also be able to access the primary account holder's games. It's worth noting, however, that the primary account holder will not be able to play games purchased by secondary accounts.
Initially, the update will only allow game sharing within a single Quest 2 device between three secondary accounts. Oculus has stated that, over time, it will look to increase the scope of these app sharing capabilities. Eventually, original Oculus Quest users will be able to engage with these features too, and app sharing will be available across multiple devices as well as among more than three secondary accounts.
Games will be opted-in to the game sharing scheme by default when it launches in February, however developers will be able to opt-out. They will need to do so before the 12th February, though.
This much-requested feature, Oculus believes, "will help grow the VR community". That remains to be seen, and whether it'll even be possible to prove is another question entirely. Still, there's no denying that it makes the Oculus Quest 2 a more attractive product for everyday consumers, families and people with VR-interested friends.
