Now THIS is Pod Racing - STAR WARS Episode I: Racer is out Now on GOG
The nostalgia-fueled Good Old Games announced today that STAR WARS Episode I: Racer is now available, only through GOG.com.
"In collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm. Ltd., we're thrilled to announce the digital re- release of the classic racing game – STAR WARS Episode I: Racer – now available only on GOG.COM," a press release put out this morning stated.
Originally released in 1999 for PC, Mac, N64, and GameBoy Color (and in 2000 for the Dreamcast), one can be forgiven for cringing due to the popular opinion of Episode 1. However, Racer received surprisingly favorable reviews at the time with several critics lauding it not only as a great Star Wars game, but also an excellent entry into the racer genre. In fact, it still stands as the best-selling sci-fi racer to date, ahead of Wipeout and even F-Zero.
Newly tweaked to run on modern PCs, STAR WARS Episode 1: Racer also features multiplayer through LAN, for folks who don't want to race alone.
Racer's release coincides with the upcoming "May the 4th (be with you)" sale, which includes a bevy of Star Wars titles, including Knights of the Old Republic I and II, Star Wars: Battlefront II (the classic and 2005 releases) and Jedi Academy, up to 66% off. Deals run through May 8 at 10:00 p.m. (UTC).
