Nintendo Reveal Switch Online Plans
Nintendo have detailed how they plan to operate their multiplayer functionality on the Nintendo Switch once it launches in March and how they plan on evolving it.
Nintendo have traditionally had free online multiplayer and initially that's how it will be on the Switch. At launch the Nintendo Switch Online Service will enter a trial period, throughout which online play will be free.
The full online service is planned to roll out in autumn this year which is when you'll be required to pay a monthly subscription to gain access to online multiplayer functionality.
It will also add online lobbies and voice chat via a separate smartphone/tablet app along with perks such as store discounts and a monthly game download.
No details are available yet on how much the subscription will cost or any other details but we'll be sure to keep you updated.
