Nintendo confirm new 3DS IP is 'Codename S.T.E.A.M

Nintendo revealed their new, upcoming 3DS IP Code Name: S.T.E.A.M  earlier today during the digital live event, a combination turn based strategy and action title that has players manage Steampunk themed troops against alien forces. The game is being developed by Intelligent System, best known for Advance Wars. Fire Emblem and Wario Ware.

The game was shown off in a series of trailers, one showing the opening movie which established a Steampunk themed London setting with a graphic novel style aesthetic, with huge jawed heroes and bright, cartoon like, visuals. The bulk of the game revolves around a lengthy campaign mode with multiple missions spread across several maps. Gameplay wise, it has been described by Hitoshi Yamagami as a 'turn based strategy game with lots of unique elements from action games', with a third person viewpoint on characters coupled with a tactical minimap. Players will utilise multiple characters, each limited by a backpack boiler that proves steam that allows for movement, use of weaponry and special attacks.

The game also includes a mutliplayer mode, although details are unclear as to what that entails for now as it has been described as 'not having online play, but having multiplayer, which will be online'

Code Name: S.T.E.A.M is due in 2015.
