Night Trap set for 25th Anniversary Re-release

Originally released in 1992, Digital Pictures’ interactive movie Night Trap was one of the most famous games in the genre made popular at the advent of disc-based gaming. This wasn’t necessarily because it was a particularly good game (it wasn’t, quite frankly), but because of the controversy it generated. The US senate hearing on violence in video games was heavily centred on Mortal Kombat and this title. That hearing was what led to the creation of the ESRB, and also indirectly led to the BBFC certifying games in the same way as they do films in Britain.

Whatever your feelings on the game, it’s impossible to deny that it holds an important place in the history of gaming. Indie developer Screaming Villains certainly think so, as they’re creating a special 25th Anniversary Edition of the game for the PS4 and Xbox One. It’ll be available later this year on both platforms, in both a digital edition and a physical one with cover art mimicking the original Mega-CD artwork from the '90s.
