New PlayStation Plus "Spartacus" Details Revealed
Sony's mysterious "Spartacus" has been revealed. For those unaware, "Spartacus" was the codename for the company's Game Pass competitor.
The brand-new PlayStation Plus is an amalgamation of the former PlayStation Plus and the PlayStation Now service, as it will feature systems from both of these. With three tiers for fans to choose from, players will be able to customise their experience with the subscription service. Users will be able to choose between the newly-named PlayStation Plus Essential, PlayStation Plus Extra, and PlayStation Plus Premium. Each of these include the following:
PlayStation Plus Essential
- Two monthly downloadable games
- Exclusive discounts
- Cloud Storage for saved games
- Online multiplayer access
PlayStation Plus Essential is essentially the original PlayStation Plus, and, as such, will have the same price.
£6.99 monthly / £19.99 quarterly / £49.99 yearly.
PlayStation Plus Extra
- All of the benefits included in the PlayStation Plus Essential tier
- A catalogue of up to 400 PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games
The additional 400 games to play with this tier essentially works as the brand-new name for PlayStation Now; however, these games are downloadable too. The titles include games by Sony such as God of War and Marvel's Spider-Man.
£10.99 monthly / £31.99 quarterly / £83.99 yearly.
PlayStation Plus Premium
- All of the benefits included in the PlayStation Plus Essential and PlayStation Plus Extra tiers
- An additional 340 games to enjoy from the original PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable (PSP)
- Streaming all of the games in the catalogue through a PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC
- Time-limited game trials
The biggest and best tier, PlayStation Plus Premium offers titles that can't be acquired any longer by offering games from past consoles, making the total over 700. You'll once again be able to select between downloading or streaming these games, though if you want to play on PC, you will only be able to stream it. That said, the PlayStation 3 games are only available for streaming. And, finally, time-limited game trials (basically demos) are meant to facilitate your choice between purchasing some games present with the system.
This demo system confirms (along with confirmation by Jim Ryan) that PlayStation Plus will not feature any day-one access to first-party games, a feature present in PlayStation Plus' competitor, Xbox Game Pass.
£13.49 monthly / £39.99 quarterly / £99.99 yearly.
One thing that's worth mentioning is that PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium will only feature streaming for countries where PlayStation Now is currently available. Due to the missing content, the PlayStation prices will be adjusted according to each individual country and the benefits they'll get from them.
PlayStation Plus' tiers will launch in June.
