New Persona 5: The Royal Trailer Has Been Released, Comes To The West In 2020

Last month, Atlus released an announcement teaser trailer for a new title; Persona 5: The Royal. While most assumed it was going to be an enhanced version of the hit JRPG Persona 5 (much in the same vein as Persona 4 Golden), a lot of the specific details were still left up to debate. Following the Persona Super Live 2019 concert, Atlus have released a second trailer that divulges new details, including a release date for Japan and a release window for the West.

The trailer seems to imply that the game will feature a large number of changes from the initial release. Joker now has a grappling hook (much like the one he uses in Super Smash Bros.) which seems to give access to new areas of old Palaces. New cutscenes, areas to explore on the maps, characters and moves to use in combat are also showcased, making this looking like a pretty large divergence. The new cutscenes may be tied to the extra third semester that’s been added to the game, as well as the additional party member that will also be joining the Phantom Thieves. While it’s currently unconfirmed, it’s likely that she’ll also be tied to a new Palace much like the previous party members.

Japan will be getting Persona 5 Royal on 31st October of this year, but unfortunately the West will have to wait a little bit longer, with an unspecified 2020 release window being the current set date.
