New NiGHTS Game Has Been Trademarked by SEGA
SEGA have recently filed a Japanese trademark relating to one of their abandoned IPs, the NiGHTS franchise. The trademarked listed is for “Nights Dream Wheel”, which doesn’t reveal much, however it does seem to indicate that some kind of new NiGHTS release is being planned by the company.
NiGHTS started its life on the SEGA Saturn with NiGHTS into Dreams, and like numerous other Saturn titles it failed to garner much mainstream attention, despite being received positively. NiGHTS into Dreams managed to get a sequel on Nintendo Wii titled Nights: Journey of Dreams, however it received a much more lukewarm reception, with numerous critics finding issues with the controls and general gameplay.
The “Nights Dream Wheel” title seems to imply that this new project will be a sequel, but it could also be a remake of the original title in the same vein of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy or the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Whatever it is, fans of the presumed dead franchise may be in for a treat in the near future.
