New League of Legends Changes Coming to the Event Pass
League of Legends is moving into a tri-seasonal state per year, where players will be able to unveil a narrative and experience everything centred around one theme. At the start of 2025, we're going to get the opportunity to go into the Noxus Season, which will likely be focused around Ambessa and Mel Medarda, given the events from Arcane.
Alongside these announcements, we got a look at the way the Battle Pass is going to be handled moving forward. In the Dev Update video shared by League of Legends, they touched on the Event Pass being retired and replaced with the Battle Pass. Featuring a Free and Premium Track, this will give players the opportunity to have something active at all times (though, hold that thought).
The new Pass will cost the same for the Premium Track, at 1650 RP for the standard and two more bundles: 2650 RP for 10 Levels, the Champion that receives the Prestige, and a Prestige Emote and the 3650 RP for all of the above and 25 Mythic Essense and a Prestige Chroma. Otherwise, Event Tokens are being removed in favour of one Track that gives players everything that would otherwise be hidden behind grinding for tokens.
It's a bittersweet change for many players. The retiring of Event Tokens (and the infinitely repeatable quest associated to it) means that players can no longer farm Orbs post-completion with their extra currency, as instead, the levels after the Track complete will include Blue and Orange Essence. On the flip side, however, the Prestige Skin, the borders, and the skins will all be included as part of the Pass rather than random items; you get fewer random skins in exchange for more transparent rewards.
Each Season will have two Battle Passes associated to it, meaning there will be a total of six Battle Passes throughout the year (the same amount as before). Following with the theme, free players will be able to get the thematic Earnable Skin Permanent of the Season and a random 1350 RP or lower skin. Here is everything that the free players will be able to get:
- One thematic Earnable Skin Permanent
- One random 1350 RP or lower Skin
- One Title
- Two Emotes
- Two Mystery Emotes
- Three Icons
- Two Mystery Icons
- Four Champion Capsules
- 4750 Blue Essence (plus infinite repeating levels at the end of the track)
Meanwhile, the Paid Pass will include all of the above and a few extras, including the Prestige Skin, three Reward Skins, and their associated borders. It's like buying out the Event Shop before, though with far less grinding associated to it. The full reward list is the following:
- Everything from the Free Pass
- Three Ancient Sparks
- One Prestige Skin
- Three Reward Skins
- Three Borders
- Seven Loot Orbs
- One Banner
- One Ward Skin
- Two Emotes
- Two Icons
- 1000 Orange Essence (Plus an infinitely repeatable 25 OE every five levels after 50)
The Prestige Skin is being changed, too. Instead of being a chroma of a currently-existing skin, the Prestige Skin will be wholly unique, so it'll be the only way to acquire it. This, according to Riot Games, is to ensure that the skin can be more "prestigious" without being held back by its purchasable counterpart.
This is all part of a larger change coming to League of Legends, with positive and negative modifications here and there. Hextech Chests are being removed from the Mastery system in favour of, instead, offering Pass EXP for those seeking to complete it, which means that free-to-play players won't have as much of an opportunity to earn a free chest as easily.
