New Assassin's Creed to be Set During the French Revolution

A leak at Ubisoft has confirmed that the latest Assassin's Creed game--code named Unity--will be set during the French Revolution.

Geek culture site Kotaku has leaked screenshots of Unity as well as some background information on Ubisoft's plans for the best-selling franchise. The developer has plans to release two games this year, Unity and another codenamed Comet, changing up their usual strategy of releasing one major new title for the franchise a year.

Not much is known about either game at the moment, but Unity is planned for the current gen PS4 and Xbox One, while Comet will be released for the previous generation; it is assumed that both will see release on the PC as well.

Leaked screenshots show the new protagonist, apparently named Arno, around the city of Paris, although at the moment it's unclear what the scope of the world map will be and whether or not Ubisoft is planning to return to the single-city maps of earlier games.

Interestingly, Unity seems to have been hinted by an in-game email players could look at in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, which listed off several possible settings and eras for future "Abstergo" projects, like the player was helping to develop in the modern day portions of the game through his or her work recording Edward's memories.

While there has been no information on Comet, earlier this year two geographical coordinates connected with an upcoming Assassin's Creed game--both located in Russia--were leaked via twitter. This has prompted many to wonder if Nikolai, one of Desmond's ancestors who appeared in his own comic miniseries set pre-World War One, could be getting his own game. If that's true, it might mean that the famous Tunguska Event, a large comet that hit Siberia in 1908, might somehow play a role in the game's plot.
