New (and Exciting) Things Are Coming to Coral Island; Check Out the 2025 Roadmap Here!

Coral Island is a farming simulator developed by Stairway Games and published by Humble Games. In it, players get to live on an island, doing all the usual features of the genre — tending to animals, farming, befriending/marrying NPCs — while also making a difference in the world by caring for the ocean.

The game has been out since the 14th of November 2023, but the developers aren't done with it yet! In a recent Steam post, they've revealed what players can expect throughout 2025!

Here's a quick summary first:

• Kids will be able to grow up.
• The Merfolk Festival.
• New mini-games for the Recreation Center.
• And much more.

In multiplayer, players can share resources and daily chores, giving each other a hand by spreading the workload. This leads to building bigger barns, expanding the farms, and growing crops together! And when home duties are done, they can dive into the ocean, jump into the mines, or head over to the Cave of Memories together! Couples will also get to tie the knot in-game, too, by even having a wedding.

As for those who enjoy marrying the NPCs, Coral Island's romance is being revamped; the developers are adding more depth and progression to make the relationships more meaningful. The first change is the heart-locking system, where players will start with 0 Hearts and have to work their way up to five through different ways. A good example is the hangouts and the locket — the symbol of commitment. Find the breakdown in the image below!

The hangouts are a new optional mini-game where players get to spend some quality time with islanders, such as at a picnic, a jam session, or even a beach bonfire. These will trigger a unique cutscene — similar to the Heart Events — where players will get an intimate moment. All of these new features will be available once players reach Heart Level 2.

Another new element is the new Detail Tab for relationships. Hangout progress, gift preferences, and key moments all have a new interface for players to check out.

Since marriage is also a romance feature, it's also getting some upgrades! At Heart Level 12, there are post-marriage events that unlock new dialogue options (which reveal the spouse's dreams, fears, and personal aspirations) and meaningful cutscenes, such as a quiet moment together or a romantic date.

That's all for the romance revamp — now, let's talk about the new Spooky Outfits. All dateable NPCs have their own outfits (don't look at the image below if you don't want spoilers), and players will get to see them during the ghost-story events. This happens only after a certain friendship level is met! Merge Games is planning on adding outfits for children in the future, too.

Winter is getting some love as well! The developer has tweaked the snow to make it look cosier, removing some of it from crops, buildings, and roads to add some to other places instead, giving it a better look.
