NEO: The World Ends with You Revealed After a 13-Year Wait
After 13 years of waiting, a sequel to the DS-exclusive classic The World Ends with You (since released on Switch, iOS and Android) is coming to the Switch and PlayStation 4 in summer 2021. Titled NEO: The World Ends with You, the title thrusts players back into the mysterious "Reapers' Game" as new protagonist Rindo, with new allies to befriend and a whole new story to experience. Check out the reveal trailer above for a look at the vibrant recreation of Shibuya and a glimpse of the game's central characters.
Following their untimely deaths, the game's heroes must fight through a trial known as the Reapers' Game while existing as a spiritual presence in the real-world district of Shibuya. If they succeed in fighting off the fearsome Reapers, they'll stand a chance at resurrection or even ascension to a higher plane of existence. When not fighting for their lives, however, our heroes can bond, explore Shibuya and complete missions. It's not all bad in the afterlife!
NEO: The World Ends with You is planned for a summer 2021 release on PlayStation 4 and Switch. No official word has been released on PlayStation 5 compatibility, but it's a near-certainty that the game will work on Sony's latest platform too.
