Minecon 2015 Sets a New World Record
MineCon has been awarded a Guiness World Record.
The convention, which celebrates all things Minecraft, earned the title of 'Largest convention for a single video-game' during MineCon 2015 in London.
Over 10,000 fans of the game attended the convention over the weekend, with Stephen Daultrey of Guiness adding:
"For a multi-genre games convention to attract 10,000 fans is a big enough feat in itself. But for a convention dedicated to a single video-game to get that number is nothing short of astonishing. This record is testament to the incredible fandom around Minecraft and the game's ability to unlock the imaginations of millions of gamers around the world."
The first batch of tickets to MineCon 2015, were sold out within 12 minutes and the full allocation of 10,000 soon afterwards in March this year.
But this wasn't the only world record to be broken during MineCon 2015 as the record breaking show GWR Live! had its very own stage, attempting to break records every hour.
Eight new titles were achieved this year including:
- 'The most sand castles built in 3 minutes on Minecraft pocket edition' - 14
- 'The most cobblestone collected in 3 minutes on Minecraft pocket edition - 137
- ‘Most soft toys caught blindfolded in 30 seconds (team of 2)’ - 11
Unfortunately no one was able to break the record for the fastest time to stack 20 large LEGO bricks but there were some very close misses.
MineCon 2015 was the first Minecraft convention to be held since Microsoft's purchase of Mojang and we got some big news. None less than the first trailer for Telltale's Minecraft Story mode which you can see here.
