Middle-Earth: Shadow of War Gets Microtransactions Removed

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War Gets Microtransactions Removed

This week, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War developers Monolith Productions announced that the controversial microtransactions will be removed over the coming months in a series of free updates.

Specifically, Gold, War Chests and the Market are to be removed, meaning that you won't be able to use use your real life money to purchase any of these items. You still have a bit of time to use any Gold you have already bought, though - you won't be able to purchase more after May 8th, with the aforementioned three features scheduled or July 17th.

The common complaint since Shadow of War released last year was that it felt far too much like a "pay-to-win" game, as you could essentially buy strong Orcs in the Market to add to your attacking prowess.

Aside from these changes, Monolith have also detailed some extra changes they are making to the Shadow Wars section of the campaign. To quote;

...we’ll be updating the Shadow Wars section of the campaign, where players defend their fortresses against Sauron’s repeated counter-attacks. This portion of the game will be improved with new narrative elements and streamlined for a more cohesive experience. For players who choose to continue with these on-going fortress defense missions, the Endless Siege update released last November will still be available.

There will also be some updates made to the Nemesis System, some new skins and tree skill abilities, along with gear system upgrades and progression improvements.

Handily, this news comes as Monolith prepare to release the Desolation of Sm...sorry, Desolation of Mordor DLC soon. This'll feature a new campaign, along with side missions with Torvin, different human mercenaries and bodyguards. There's a new region too, called The Desert of Lithlad.

Desolation of Mordor will release on May 8th. Middle-Earth: Shadow of War released last September on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
