Microsoft Acquires Gears of War Franchise

Microsoft have acquired all of the rights concerning the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games, including existing games and future games. Microsoft has tasked Black Tusk Studios with creating new instalments for the franchise which will remain exclusive to Xbox.

Assisting on the project is former Epic Games executive producer Rod Fergusson, whom Microsoft claim will "play a key studio leadership role at Black Tusk" during the development of the new games.

I've been privileged to work on a lot of great games with a lot of great teams, but Gears has had the most impact on me professionally and personally, so this really feels like a homecoming. I can't wait to share more with you all soon.

Microsoft have not made any specific announcements regarding the future of the Gears of War franchise, although Microsoft Studios executive producer Phil Spencer has stated there will be announcements made regarding the franchise this year.
