Micro Machines is Back, Bigger than Before but Still Small

With Codemasters releasing so many great racing games, it’s easy to forget that in the nineties they were known for a much less serious driving franchise. Micro Machines, based on the tiny toy cars of the same name, was one of the most successful games of the 16 bit era, spawning numerous sequels. The franchise is now returning, in the guise of Micro Machines World Series.

Coming to the PS4, Xbox One and PC on the 21st of April, the new game will feature polished HD graphics and a slew of new modes. In addition to classic game modes such as Race and Elimination, Micro Machines World Series introduces all new Battle Arenas which allow you to wreak mass destruction on a miniature scale against your friends or the AI. Meanwhile, Team play lets you work together using your vehicles’ unique skills in modes such as “Capture the Flag” and “King of the Hill.”

Codemasters’ VP Publishing, Jonathan Bunney, commented: “The original Micro Machines was a breakthrough multiplayer racing game and remains much loved in the gaming community. We saw great success earlier this year with our free-to-play mobile game but this brand new console title takes the franchise to its greatest levels of multiplayer mayhem and enables you to play with your friends on the same sofa or across the world.”

Those cars are the size of Hot Wheels, not Micro Machines...

That's a good point. The one in the shed looks about the right size, but the others are a bit big. That said, were they to a correct scale in the first game? I seem to recall that they were a bit big in the mega drive days.

Still super excited for this.

Micro Machines were about the size of a standard adult thumb, from nail to first knuckle. Not almost the size of a pool ball.

I just checked on the old one and you're right, the scale is definitely different now. This makes me sad :( I hadn't noticed it before you mentioned it, this is all your fault Lister! *shakes fist*
