Lost Game Wonderland Dizzy released after 22 years in Wilderness

In the eighties and nineties, Dizzy was everywhere. He was one of the most famous and successful characters on the 8-bit systems and we saw multiple number one games featuring the titular egg. This success however didn't translate onto the consoles and attempts to create a successful competitor to Sonic and Mario were not as fruitful as Codemasters would have liked, leading to the cancellation of spin off Dreamworld Pogie and sequel Wonderland Dizzy.

The former of those two games turned up in an early build form and was leaked on the internet in 2011, but the latter was always assumed to be lost forever with very few details ever revealed about it. However, it turns out that following its canning in 1993, the game wasn't lost at all, it has merely been nestling in Phillip Oliver's attic for over 20 years! When looking through his attic for some memorabilia to take to a talk with him, the developer found the map for the game, and this piqued his curiosity enough to have a major attic search for anything else related to it.

Although it had already been announced that a new Dizzy title was to be revealed yesterday alongside a kickstarter of new biography of the twins by Fusion Retro Books, few realised that the reveal would be the long-lost missing title.

After finding the source code, the twins enlisted the help of Lukasz Kur and Andrew Joseph from fansite yolkfolk.com to compile the game into a playable state. You can play it for free either as a NES ROM or directly in your browser from the aforementioned fansite and there's a twitter and facebook hashtag competition running until the end of the year to win some Dizzy related goodies.
