Lost Dizzy Spin-off Dreamworld Pogie Comes to Kickstarter
Dizzy Spin-Off, Dreamworld Pogie was always assumed lost. It was the holy grail of Dizzy fans and every retro gamer hoped that a charity shop or boot sale would uncover a copy. In 2011, a playable alpha version hit the internet, but until now the full game has remained unobtainable. With the release of Wonderland Dizzy last year, it was the last unreleased game. Thanks in part to the infamous fall out between Codemasters and Nintendo over the Game Genie, the planned NES title didn't see the light of day.
The game has, much like Wonderland Dizzy, resurfaced in the attic of Philip Oliver, one half of the coding duo who created the game back in 1992. It's a colourful mascot platformer, as we saw many of back in the day. It's available to play online at dreamworldpogie.com, but even more exciting is the fact that you can get one of a limited run of cartridges to play the game as it was intended, on a real NES.
The carts come as part of a Kickstarter being run by Chris Wilkins, a notable video game biographer who has just created a biography of the twins, available from Retro Fusion books. Having worked closely with the twins over the last year while creating the book, itself funded by Kickstarter, Wilkins was the perfect choice to bring the game to reality, as he did with Wonderland Dizzy for one of the perks on the book's campaign.
The campaign is live now, with the game expected to arrive in mid February. Versions with and without a full box are available, as well as various additional tiers featuring merchandise.
