KOEI TECMO Games Releases Samurai Warriors 5 Worldwide

KOEI TECMO Europe announced the worldwide release of the newest entry in the Samurai Warriors series, Samurai Warriors 5, on 27th July. This follows the Japanese release approximately a month earlier on 24th June.

Samurai Warriors 5 is a 1 vs. 1,000 tactical hack and slash action game that doubles as a Sengoku period historical drama. The game follows two prominent military commanders, Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi, after the end of the Ōnin War.

Samurai Warriors 5 features a brand new art style based on traditional Japanese ink paintings, new Musou actions and skills, and 27 playable characters along with 10 additional characters, new and old, each designed or redesigned to better fit with the story’s Sengoku period setting.

“The original Samurai Warriors was released 17 years ago, and it’s amazing for me to see the transformation of the series from its roots all the way up to the incredible Samurai Warriors 5,” said Hisashi Koinuma, President and Chief Operating Officer of KOEI TECMO Games. “I hope everyone is ready to experience Samurai Warriors like never before!”

KOEI TECMO Europe has also announced plans for two waves of DLC available post-launch in August, the first wave including three new scenarios, two weapon sets, and three additional horses and the second wave including three more scenarios, three more horses, and three new weapon sets.

Samurai Warriors 5 is available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam.
