Kickstarter of Note: RetroStone - Ultimate RetroGaming Console
Retro consoles are all the race - just check out the Nintendo Classic Mini: SNES if you need proof. However, the amount of portable solutions is few and far between. You have things like the SupaBoy, or the Kickstarter project we're highlighting here: RetroStone.
Coming from Pierre-Louis Boyer, who has already delivered one successful Kickstarter (the Raspiboy), the RetroStone is a single board computer (think Raspberry Pi) wrapped in a shell designed to evoke the original Nintendo Game Boy.
It comes with an H3 processor (quad core 1.2Ghz), 1GB RAM, a 3.5" screen, ethernet and HDMI ports, four USB ports (enabling 5-player gaming) and the dimensions are 130x90x25mm. There are six face buttons, a d-pad, and four buttons on the rear. There is also a headphone jack.
It will be running on Retrorangepi, which means it will be capable of running media through Kodi, and multiple retro gaming systems such as Mega Drive, SNES, Game Boy and Dreamcast.
You can check out this Kickstarter here, and pledge at €129 or higher for at least one RetroStone. There is also a Kickstarter-exclusive RetroStone with a clear blue case at the €148 mark. Prices do not include shipping. The project was after €30,000, but blew through that in the first 48 hours.
