Kevin Hart Confirmed for the Upcoming Borderlands Movie
Kevin Hart has been cast as mercenary Roland in the upcoming film adaptation of Borderlands, reportedly being directed by Eli Roth. The Hollywood A-lister—known for Ride Along, Central Intelligence and the Jumanji reboot series—will join Cate Blanchett, playing Lilith, on the Lionsgate-produced film set to begin filming soon in Hungary.
While it's still in pre-production, the Borderlands film is believed to follow the same plot as the original game, with a cast of four protagonists on the hunt for on the hunt for the legendary Vault of Pandora. Interestingly, the casting choices for the other two main characters, Brick and Mordecai, have not yet been revealed.
Known primarily as a comedic actor, Hart's involvement in this project suggests that the franchise's tongue-in-cheek tone will be adhered to. With that said, Hart's character, in the source material, is distinctly unlike Kevin Hart in terms of personality. Perhaps Craig Mazin (Creator of HBO'sChernobyl), who wrote the most recent screenplay has taken some liberties with some details of the license.
Regardless of his suitability for a role like Roland, Hart's involvement in the film, as well as Blanchett's is sure to attract some serious mainstream attention to this Borderlands project. Seeing as that will, in turn, draw attention to the games themselves, it's hard to see this as a bad thing.

No idea how I feel about this lmfao - Roland is one of the few 'grounded' characters in the franchise and he often helped reality-check the more serious moments in an otherwise light-hearted game.
On the bright side, given their track-record of working together, Hart's involvement could point towards The Rock being brought into the cast list, and I couldn't think of a better Brick.

Surprised with Cate as Lilith too, although I can see her doing a good job.
