Katana ZERO Teases the Upcoming Free DLC After Years of Development
Katana ZERO's Justin Stander has basked in becoming one of the most popular and renowned games published by Devolver Digital, as players head out into a stylish pixelated world mixing action platforming and instant-death combat. Notorious for its tough-as-nails difficulty and unconventional storytelling, it received a lot of praise for its high-quality gameplay.
A week after the release of the game, Askiisoft announced that the team was working on a DLC that would be entirely free, but by February 2020, the scope had grown in size, so it would be delayed. Further delays came when in March 2021, it was mentioned that the DLC had expanded up to six times its original size, and was more like Katana ZERO 1.5 than a standalone DLC.
Now, it's 2025 and we haven't heard much about it for the years to come. We've known that it would include additional story (though it won't conclude it), that it would bring new enemies and story segments, and now that it's about half the size of the original game, which ranged from 4½ hours to 13½ hours depending on whether you're rushing the main story or going for a completionist run.
Despite the years of silence, many hadn't lost hope for the release, and that faith is being repaid in kind with an official, yet brief, update on Steam. Released on the 14th of April, a short one-minute video gives players a look at the official teaser trailer, confirming: still coming;still free.
The environments shown off keep the famous Katana ZERO style, and fans have been ecstatic to learn more about the DLC. What had become an enigma akin to Team Cherry's Silksong has officially been brought up once again, and it's lookinglikely that we'll learn more about it soon, considering the trailer.
Stay tuned for more information regarding Katana ZERO's unnamed free DLC!
