Jump Back into the Commonwealth with A Brand-new Fallout 4 Update Coming Soon

With the recent release of the Fallout 4 show on Prime (and the massive success that it has garnered), it makes sense that Bethesda would show some love to its latest (yeah, we're ignoring Fallout 76Fallout release by bringing new content updates to it! The beloved-yet-not-favourited Fallout 4 is getting a new update a massive 9 years since it's release (I hope you feel as old as I do).

So what's really coming to the Commonwealth, and does it warrant a return to look for Shawn (...again)?

The first and most obvious change is a couple of quality of life performance increases. For console, this means that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have received improvements to Performance and Quality mode settings, alongside stabilities and fixes, meaning you can enjoy the experience at 60 FPS with higher resolutions. For PC, this means fewer bugs and better performance (or as few bugs as you can have in a Bethesda title. We love you, Bethesda — don't hate us). Better yet, however, Fallout 4 is receiving an update to its widescreen and ultra-widescreen support, where we might be able to enjoy the Commonwealth with 21:9 (or maybe even up to 48:9) resolutions. The supported ones were not stated in the official blog post.

Notably, handheld gamers will receive an update where Fallout 4 has shifted from Steam Deck Playable to Steam Deck Verified, which means you can play the game through and through with Valve's green checkmark that ensures you should experience no issues. This is great news for Steam Deck lovers and should be an opportunity to confidently pick up the title without worrying about it.

The best update by far is the new additions to the game overall. There is a brand-new quest introducing The Enclave, a pre-war group that wishes to take over the Commonwealth and spread their dangerous ideologies. This new quest is named"Echoes of the Past", and it also includes a couple of new weapons and armours themed around The Enclave. In total, these are the new items that are being added:

  • Enclave Weapon Skins
  • Enclave Armor Skins
  • Tesla Cannon
  • Hellfire Power Armor
  • X-02 Power Armor
  • Heavy Incinerator

And if that wasn't enough, you can now use the Makeshift Weapon Pack to use three new items: a baseball launcher, a nail gun, and a piggy bank. Most notably, we're excited about the piggy bank because who wouldn't want to blast Death Claws with a piggy bank?

And finally, you can now decorate your settlements with 38 new Halloween decoration items that'll allow you to bring Samhain to your settlement year-round (after all, the nuclear war did happen in October).

If you're excited to join this update, then fret not: you should be able to partake when it releases on the 25th of April! It's not too far now.
