Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil set to Produce Secret World TV-show
Johnny Depp’s production company Infinitum Nihil is partnering with G4C Innovation and Funcom to produce a brand-new, live-action TV series based off the MMO, The Secret World and the recently released, shared-world online RPG, Secret Worlds Legends.
The series won’t directly rip from the video-game, but certainly will be a show based on the concept, the stories, and universe itself. And in our real world of conspiracy theories and myths, it is one that could make great television if done right.
The Secret World centres around a team of undercover agents that collude and collide with other secret societies which include: the Illuminati, Dragon and the Templar. The main plot within sees players battle against the supernatural from different worlds and multiple dimensions. The world also incorporates stories from ancient myths, legends and long running conspiracy theories, many of which are believed to be true in the real world.
As explained by Funcom CEO Rui Casais;
“The Secret World universe is full of stories just waiting to be told,”
he continued
“From secret societies to myths and legends that are all coming true, The Secret World captures some of the humanity’s greatest mysteries and asks what if?”
This project has been eyed on by producer Gudrun Giddings since 2012 and they’ve held onto media rights since. Alongside the show will be produced by Johnny Depp, Christi Dembrowski and Sam Sarkar, who developed the project with Gudrun Giddings. A pilot is already written by James V. Hart (Hook, Dracula) and Jake Hart.
This project seems to be full of optimism from both producers and Funcom. Funcom, themselves are seeing further success with the re-launch of The Secret World under the name of Secret World Legends, which saw a large player surge when it launched on June 26th, 2017.
Be sure to keep an eye on the latest from GameGrin as the show develops.
