Iron Danger Brings a Time-Bending Twist to Real-Time Strategy
Save scumming is a time-honoured tradition in gaming, especially with strategic RPGs. Action Squad Studios' upcoming title, Iron Danger, looks to integrate the replaying of scenarios into its design with the help of Prince of Persia-esque time-rewind mechanics.
Set in a "nordic mythology, steampunk and tech noir" inspired world ravaged by endless war, players will control Kipuna, an unassuming protagonist with untold potential. After her village is attacked, Kipuna is spared from death with the help of an otherworldly crystal creature who grants her time-bending powers. Now, she can control combat encounters to avoid death and manipulate situations to her advantage.
With a combat system that blends real-time and turn-based strategy, Iron Danger's moment-to-moment gameplay can be compared to Chess in its puzzle-like quality. Taking specific combat encounters and rewinding in five-second intervals to attain the best outcome with the tools and companions at hand. Action Squad Studios also stresses that the game will respect a player's time with a focused, 15-hour campaign —this means no grinding or time-wasting mechanics.
It should go without saying that any game claiming to draw from Norse mythology would bring its share of monsters and creatures to the table. On this front, Iron Danger shouldn't disappoint: claiming to offer "Epic boss monsters" and creatures that span not only Norse mythology, but Finnish folklore too.
Iron Danger will release on Steam for PC, Mac and Linux on 25th March.
