Interplay Looking to Sell Off Their IP

Interplay are looking to sell their IP catalogue, in what looks like a final hurrah to the games industry after the financial troubles the company has had in recent times. The Interplay of today however is very different from the original company. They act more like an IP licensing machine rather than the very active developer/publisher of the past.

Interplay have been around a long time, founded by Brian Fargo who now runs Wasteland 2 developer InXile Entertainment, and have crafted many classic franchises. They are arguably better known to PC gamers but were equally responsible for publishing some great console games too.

The well-loved dungeon-crawling RPG series, The Bard's Tale along with the Fallout precursor, Wasteland helped define PC RPG experiences of the time. They then went on to develop Fallout itself following that up with its sequel, and also were responsible for Planescape: Torment and the Baldur's Gate series.

Console owners are more likely to know the name from the classic series' and titles they published, from Earthworm JimMDK, Giants: Citizen Kabuto through to Descent and Freespace. They covered a wide gamut of genres thanks to adopting a broad publishing strategy.

Interplay are looking to sell its entire library of game assets and IP, which could pave the way to us seeing sequels to games we'd long forgotten. A new Sacrifice or perhaps a new Messiah could be really exciting.

Are there games in Interplay's portfolio you'd love to see brought back?
