Infamous: Second Son Sees a Rise in PS4 Sales, with Xbox One Closing In
The release of inFamous: Second Son--a PlayStation 4 exclusive--saw the system's UK sales double this week.
The anticipated third installment of the inFamous series, which focuses on superpowered everyman-style protagonists in a dystopian near future, debuted at number one in the UK and received generally positive reviews from critics, who applauded the game's visuals and gameplay. In response to the game success, PlayStation 4 sales jumped by 106%, according to a source for the market analysis site MCV.
Earlier this month, the Microsoft-exclusive Titanfall led to a similar rise in sales of the Xbox One, which lagged slightly behind PlayStation with a spike of 96% in the week following the game's release. Microsoft's system also began closing the gap with a mixed blessing in the form of Sony announcing potential shortages in PlayStation 4 come summer.
Since the launch of both consoles, PlayStation has maintained an increasingly narrow lead over the Xbox One, however the release of Titanfall and a cut in the latter's price have put the two systems neck-in-neck when it comes to UK sales the past few weeks.
