Humble Outline Their Anti-Fraud Efforts

Humble Outline Their Anti-Fraud Efforts

With all the recent controversy on various key-selling websites Humble Bundle have released their "six-point policy" on how they are combating this issue.

  • 1) Risk Assessment: A machine-learning-based anti-abuse startup called Sift Science.
  • 2) SMS Verification: They can ban fraudsters by phone numbers.
  • 3) Manual Review: If the transaction still 'looks risky', they can hold onto it for a manual review. The customer service team will look at the transaction to determine if it's legitimate.
  • 4) Rate Limits & Captcha: If all else fails, these will be used to minimise any damage. Two copies of a game could be stolen, but they will need to steal another credit card in order to obtain the third game.
  • 5) Key Cancellation: This is cancelling orders and the digital good if the occasion should crop up whereby the transaction slips them by. The person holding the key loses access to the game.
  • 6) Keep Watching and Working with our Processors: They monitor fraud daily, and always tweak variables to close any holes up.

You can find out more information, such as what it means for customers and developers, by following the link here. It's nice to see that Humble is making a real effort to ensure a fair and legitimate service for all involved.
