Hell is Others Debuts with a Gloriously Unsettling Teaser Trailer

Studios Strelka Games and Yonder have made a memorable first impression with Hell is Others, their upcoming horror shooter with farming sim elements. Capturing the fuzzy surreality of nightmares, the trailer shows off the game's setting, Century City, while giving a cinematic edge to the typically un-cinematic pixel-art style. It's due to hit Steam Early Access this year.

As Adam Smithson—a man devoid of memories who finds himself with an apartment, a life and a bloodthirsty Magnolia Bonsai plant in Century City—you must venture out into the dark streets and scrounge up what you can to survive. You need to sate your Bonsai's appetite for blood; you need to cultivate more plants which can grow special bullets (used as currency or protection), and you need to forge a living for yourself in Century City. There's only one way to make all of that happen, and that's facing the horrors, known as The Things, that stalk the streets, looking to take your loot or else steal your life.

There's no two ways about it, Hell is Others is a nightmare encapsulated in pixel art, but it's got an irresistible charm regardless.

Hell is Others releases on Steam Early Access in 2021.
