Happy Birthday PlatinumGames

Happy Birthday PlatinumGames

The heady days of 2006 seem like a distant memory now. It was a time of great joy with the success of NASA's Mars orbiter and the birth of Twitter. It was also a time of great sandness due to England's dreadful World Cup performance and the first recorded case of Avian Flu. While we were all bopping along to Hips Don't Lie, Crazy and the soundtrack to High School Musical though, PlatinumGames were busy forming themselves.

The company was formed by a number of developers from the former Clover Studio of Capcom. Famous for some unique games with a cult following such as Okami and Viewtiful Joe, there was a lot of gaming heritage on board from the start. The IPs stayed with Konami, who chose to do nothing with them, while PlatinumGames went on to gain success with titles such as Vanquish and Bayonetta.

2016 marks their tenth year in the industry and they published a statement on their official website in celebration. Company President Tatsuya Minami looked back at where they had come from, and promised to keep working hard for their fans. That's a statement that we we well believe here at GameGrin too. 2016 brings us some major titles from the developer; including their collaboration with Nintendo on Star Fox: Zero, and the recently announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan
