Gothic Remake: THQ Nordic Unveils the New Studio Behind the Game
Barcelona-based studio Alkimia Interactive is working on the long-awaited remake of Gothic, owner THQ Nordic has announced. The newly-formed team, chosen for their passion for RPGs, has been at work on the remake since summer 2020. It is expected to be the first of many action-RPG projects to be worked on by the studio for PC and current-gen consoles.
Reinhard Pollice, Studio Head at Alkimia Interactive, confirms the studio's ambition in an official statement: "We strive to build Alkimia Interactive as a top-notch RPG studio"..."Our ambition is to become one of the best addresses for PC/Console core game development in the South of Europe".
Released back in 2001, Gothic introduced players to a dark fantasy world in which humans were locked in a ruthless war with Orcs. It saw them grow their character in typical RPG fashion, dealing with hardcore game mechanics and elements of realism which were—at the time—innovative. It may have been a little rough around the edges, but in the years since its release, the game has garnered a cult following, one that has earned it a remake 20 years later.
More information on the upcoming game can be found on the Alkimia Interactive website.
The Gothic remake is being developed by Alkimia Interactive and will release for PC and next-gen consoles.
